Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two municipal police officers remain in hospital after their vehicle overturned on the federal highway. The accident happened around 3:00 a.m. a few kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.

The two members of the Playa del Carmen Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) inside were seriously injured after rolling their police truck. The damaged vehicle, part of the recently delivered fleet of 1.2 billion in new police vehicles, was a write off.
According to initial reports, the driver is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing him to lose control and overturn. The two officers on board were rescued by fellow officers and immediately taken to Playa del Carmen General Hospital where their conditions have been reported as serious.

The patrol truck was declared a total loss due to the damage sustained. Authorities have not issued a statement regarding the status of the injured officers or an official cause for the single vehicle accident.
