Two detained in relation to body found in Playa del Carmen shopping cart

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police in Playa del Carmen have detained two men in relation to a deceased female found in a shopping cart last week. Both men were arrested after being identified on surveillance cameras of a nearby establishment.

Agents arrested the pair as probable participants in the death of the unidentified woman as well as the act of leaving her body in the shopping cart. The “suspicious cart” was reported to authorities by neighbors December 10.

Police arrived to find the deceased body of a female identified only as G.J.M., wrapped in canvas and left in a shopping cart that was found on a street in central Playa del Carmen. She was allegedly murdered behind a nearby business.

“Video recordings and various interviews led the investigators to locate a commercial establishment located on Calle 2 BIS, where the victim was probably deprived of liberty and life,” said the FGE.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reports 31-year-old Luis R and 19-year-old Saqueo M were located and taken into custody Sunday afternoon on arrest warrants. Both are currently being held in the Municipal Retention Center of Playa del Carmen.
