Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A former tenant of a Playa del Carmen apartment has been arrested in the death of his landlady. Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office executed an arrest warrant against Jaime “N” for the weekend murder.
On Friday, Jaime “N” was taken to hospital under police guard after allegedly killing the woman and then trying to kill himself.
“The events for which the now detained man is being investigated occurred on March 7 when the victim showed up at his home on 102 bis North Street in the Centro neighborhood, to collect the rent,” police said.
“Nothing more was heard from the woman, so family members and acquaintances searched for her, locating her car outside the aforementioned house and notifying the authorities.
“When police arrived at Jaime “N”‘s home, he refused to open the door, threatened the officers with a knife, and then injured himself, leading to his arrest. Inside the home, police found the victim’s body under clothing and a tarp. The autopsy indicated the cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation,” they explained.
Members of the Investigative Police assigned to this area arrested Jaime “N” after being discharged from the hospital and placed at the disposal of the requesting authority.
