Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man involved in a gas explosion inside a Playa del Carmen rental room has died. The man, who rented the room, was taken to hospital with severe burns after the gas explosion inside his room.
The accident happened July 2. Firemen and municipal officers were at the tenement building on 80th Street in Luis Donaldo Colosio in response to the afternoon explosion.
The man now identified as Israel “N” was taken to hospital with burns on 70 percent of his body. He was admitted to the intensive care unit in critical condition and died three days later.
According to his neighbors, the explosion came from the small room where Israel lived. A second after they heard the explosion, they saw the room engulfed in flames. An LP gas leak was suspected. Authorities have not confirmed the official cause.
