Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man was transferred to Playa del Carmen hospital Wednesday after blowing out his rented room. PDC firemen and municipal officers were at a tenement building on 80th Street in Luis Donaldo Colosio in response to the afternoon explosion.

A report to the 9-1-1 line alerted emergency services to a fire possibly caused by an LP gas explosion. At the scene, emergency personnel found a blown out room and its tenant with extensive burns.
When they arrived, Municipal Police found a man sitting naked on the street with extensive burns on his body. Playa del Carmen firemen were made aware of five people trapped in a room inside the building due to the explosion.

All five were located and rescued without injury. The man was taken to hospital in critical condition with extensive second and third degree burns over 70 percent of his body.

Civil Protection personnel arrived to verify the condition of the building. Authorities are investigating an LP gas tank explosion inside the room as the cause.
