TAG Airlines announces a new connection to Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — Starting in December, TAG Airlines, the Guatemalan flag carrier, will link the destinations of Cancun and Flores, in the Petén region. This new route will join the already operating routes, Guatemala City and Tapachula with Cancun.

The addition of the new route to the Cancun International Airport will be the third for the airline.

“This route between Cancun and Flores is part of the vision that the company had proposed some time ago, which involves expanding aviation services and connectivity in the Central American region and southern Mexico with Cancun being a point of connectivity to hundreds of destinations in the world.

“Today we can say that it is a reality thanks to the ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries. We are opening new paths for tourism development in the region,” said Julio Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines.

According to the statistics of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute, from January to August 2021, inbound tourism has accounted for 357,033 international visitors, which reflects a window of opportunity for a growing economic reactivation through the different sectors of the industry.

The Director General of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute, Mynor Cordón, welcomed TAG’s announcement saying, “the new route will boost business and the economy as well as have an impact on the creation of jobs and development.”
