Cancun, Q.R. — TAG Airlines has announced the opening of flights from Guatemala to Cancun. In a statement, Julio Gamero, director of the Tag Airlines company said starting August, they will begin offering flights from Guatemala to Tapachula and Cancun.
The route from Guatemala to Tapachula will begin on August 13, with Monday and Friday flights. While the flights to Cancun will begin August 19 and arrive on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sundays. The airline says that by October, they are anticipating daily flights.
Connectivity “will not only be profitable from the business, commercial and tourist point of view but also contribute to the relationship of the peoples,” Gamero said commenting that the portfolio of routes is being expanded and pointing out that Cancun is the gateway to world tourism.
Through alliances with tourism operators, Guatemala will be included in the Cancun product catalog to publicize Guatemalan destinations in its portfolio, he added.
While Tapachula, due to its geographical location is a strategic point not only for business economic activity but also for tourism, the airline said that there are people from that area who come to Guatemala City in search of professional services.
“These points will be benefited by the flights. The intention is to generate a bank of connections in Guatemala City, this is what has been done and the Tapachula and Cancun routes will be connected with the rest of Central America,” said Gamero adding that the intention is to try to put Guatemala on the map as a destination.
The Consul of Mexico in Guatemala, Alejandro Martínez, expressed that the tourist and commercial exchange will be further increased not only with those cities, but with the states of Chiapas and Quintana Roo, places that are of high influx of tourists of Guatemalan origin.
