Suspect in murders of three Playa del Carmen taxi drivers captured in Tabasco

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The main suspect in the murder of three Playa del Carmen taxi drivers has been located. A man identified as Abelsasar “N” was found by police in Centla, Tabasco and arrested.

The investigation that lead to his location and subsequent arrest was in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Secretariat of the Navy and Attorney General’s Office of Tabasco.

The bodies of three PDC taxi drivers were found off the highway north of Playa del Carmen in July.

According to a statement, Abelsasar “N” was arrested for his probable participation in the homicide of three taxi drivers that occurred on July 18, 2025. All three taxi drivers were found dead off the federal highway near the Playa del Carmen – Puerto Morelos municipal border.

The arrest of Abelsasar “N” took place in the municipality of Centla, Tabasco, through a joint operation with the Interinstitutional Group. He was arrested traveling the Villahermosa-Ciudad del Carmen highway at kilometer 87, where authorities were maintain a checkpoint.

“At that location, a white Nissan Sentra vehicle without license plates was detected speeding and crashed into signs, leading to an inspection,” police said in a statement.

“Inside the car was Abelsasar “N” who, upon getting out, was caught with dried grass that resembled marijuana, for which he was arrested for simple possession of public health offenses.

“Subsequently, upon verifying his identity in the Plataforma México database, it was confirmed that he had an outstanding arrest warrant for his probable involvement in the murder of three taxi drivers who were found dead with gunshot wounds on July 18 in the municipality of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo,” police added.

In July, authorities said all three deceased taxi drivers had been reported missing between July 17 and 18. Abelsasar “N” has been transferred to the state to face charges in Playa del Carmen. Police said drug dealing was their main line of investigation since all three were involved in drug sales in the tourist areas of Riviera Maya.
