Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The surviving female passenger of a car that was impaled by a guardrail last week, has died. The woman, identified as Maria N, died Tuesday night in hospital.
Maria N was admitted November 17 in serious condition after the car in which she was traveling hit a guardrail. The metal rail impaled the car, going completely through it, killing the driver.
The male driver of the vehicle, a local waiter, was her boyfriend. He was pronounced on scene. Maria N was rushed to a Playa del Carmen hospital where she finally succumbed to her injuries at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The accident happened just south of Playa del Carmen during a bout of heavy rain. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the fatal accident.
