Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man was killed and his passenger left with serious injuries after impaling his car with a guardrail. The accident happened Wednesday night south of Playa del Carmen during heavy rains.
The driver of the Yucatan-plated Ford Fiesta was killed after losing control of his car and slamming into a highway guardrail just south of the city. The metal railing impaled the vehicle, killing him and seriously injuring his passenger.
Emergency and rescue brigades were sent to the accident scene by C-5 personnel. They arrived to find the deceased driver, who was a waiter at a Riviera Maya establishment and his girlfriend, the seriously injured passenger, both pinned inside the car. Speed and wet roads are being considered a factor in the accident.
