Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Strong winds left small vessels docked in Playa del Carmen on Tuesday. Port authorities closed waterways to smaller boats due to the strong southeast winds that at times, were creating eight to 12 foot waves.
Daniel Maas Michel, captain of the Port of Playa del Carmen, closed the areas from Punta Maroma to Punta Pajaros for small vessels.
The windy day also saw a halt to the installation of additional anti-sargassum barriers around Playa del Carmen. After installing 2.5 kilometers on Monday, crews attempted to install more Tuesday, however, they were forced back by the high waves.
On Monday, a small boat belonging to Semar sank at a Playa del Carmen dock after taking on water. The winds have been ongoing for several days.
