Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A small vessel with an anti-sargassum barrier sank off a pier in Playa del Carmen. The boat filled with sea water after a bout of gusty winds.
Several officers were in the Semar boat and heading out to install the seaweed barriers when they were forced back to the dock. It was while the boat was moored that it began to take on water.
The region has experienced high wind gusts for nearly two weeks, a reason for the sudden arrival of sargassum. The boat was docked at the Constituyentes Avenue pier of Ultramar when the mishap was recorded.
Personnel from Ultramar helped to rescue the small navy boat.
