Chetumal, Q.R. — The young male manatee found alone in a lagoon last week is doing well, says state authorities.
Miguel Ángel Nadal Novelo, Attorney for Environmental Protection in Quintana Roo, reported that the manatee is in good health and stable condition and will remain in the Center for Attention and Rehabilitation of Aquatic Mammals (CARMA) while specialists determine the next step.
He was thankful to the local citizens who made the report of the manatee, adding that the unnamed baby continues to be fed whey and milk formula. On Friday, locals came upon the lone baby manatee in the Laguna Milagros in the town of Huay Pix.
Authorities monitored the baby, noticing it was without a mother. It was transferred to a care facility in Chetumal where it remains.
