Mexico City, Mexico — Claudia Sheinbaum is officially the elected President of Mexico after receiving her certificate. On Thursday, Sheinbaum was presented with her certificate by the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF).
She later gave a speech from the Metropolitan Theater in Mexico City as president-elect. Her official certification comes more than two months after her victory in the June 2024 elections.
The certificate accredits Claudia Sheinbaum as the next President of Mexico. After swearing the Constitution during her inauguration in the Congress of the Union, Sheinbaum and her husband, Jesús María Tarriba, traveled to the Metropolitan Theater from where she gave her first speech as official president-elect.
Sheinbaum said that there were two mandates from the people of Mexico during the June 2 elections. The first that the transformation of the country continues and the second, that it is time for women.
“The arrival of the first female president is not an individual triumph. The people of Mexico made the decision that now is the time for women, because today, Leona Vicario arrives with us, Josefa Ortiz arrives, the chinacas who defended the country and played a very important role arrive, the workers also arrive, Dolores Jiménez and Juana Gutiérrez arrive, intellectual precursors, Elvia Carrillo Puerto arrives, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Frida Kahlo and Rosario Castellanos arrive,” she said Thursday.
Sheinbaum Pardo was validated as officially qualifying to be the next President of Mexico August 14 by the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation. She will assume the presidential office October 1 at which time there will be a public celebration at the Zócalo in central Mexico City.
