Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The second taxi driver involved in an attack outside a Riviera Maya theme park has been arrested. The attack against a private vehicle mistaken for an Uber happened on November 22, 2024.

Playa del Carmen taxi driver José Alejandro “N” was arrested by Investigative Police and is the second taxi driver allegedly involved in the crime of damage and assault against a motorist.

“Initial investigations indicate that the arrested man, along with Daniel “N”, the first taxi driver arrested for the same events, confronted the victim when he went to pick up a friend at a hotel located within a Riviera Maya ecotourism park claiming that he could not pick up people in that area, only the taxi drivers of the site.

“Ignoring the union members’ threats, the private driver set off, however, at the height of the municipality of Puerto Morelos, he was intercepted by the taxi drivers, who attacked him, mistaking him for a digital platform service provider.

“Even though the victim explained to them that he was an external delivery man for a private company in the municipality of Benito Juárez, in addition to showing them old conversations with his friend through his WhatsApp, the suspects threatened him and forced the tourists to get out of the private vehicle and get into one of the taxis and later caused damage to the victim’s vehicle,” police reported in a statement.

For the above reasons, José Alejandro “N” was captured and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
