Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Raúl “Z” will stand trial on charges of extortion. He is also being investigated for the murder of two Playa del Carmen people. On Sunday, the State Attorney General of Quintana Roo reported on the legal status of Raúl “Z”.
He was returned to the state of Quintana Roo and brought before a judge over the weekend who ordered him to remain imprisoned “for two years or as long as the process takes.”
The preventative detention was handed down during his arraignment where it was determined he will stand trial for extortion while being investigated for the murder of two people.
Raúl “Z” was arrested in Pachuca, Hidalgo last week in collaboration with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of Hidalgo. The FGE of Quintana Roo says Raúl “Z” will face charges “for his probable probable participation in the crime of extortion against a lodging center in the municipality of Solidaridad, from whom in September 2021, he demanded a monthly monetary amount in order to let them work.”
The FGE Quintana Roo was offering a reward of 500,000 pesos “to anyone who provided effective and reliable information that contributed to his arrest,” however, the agency says the reward will not be paid “since he was located thanks to traditional and technological intelligence work by of the authorities of Hidalgo and the state of Quintana Roo.”
Raúl “Z” is also being investigated for his probable participation in crimes of homicide against two victims in the municipality of Solidaridad. At the time of his arrest last week, the FGE reported that he was being investigated for his possible involvement in the murder of a Mamitas Beach Club manager.
In their latest update, the FGE did not detail if that murder was one of the two he is currently being investigated for.
