Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — City inspectors have closed the start of an illegal street takeover project by a centrally located grocery store. Inspectors from the Development and Physiognomy Department of Solidaridad arrived with their closure seals Wednesday after citizen reports.
The Solidaridad City Council members from Desarrollo Urbano y Fisonomía proceeded to shut the street closure project grocery store Chedraui had started along 3 Street South.
The company began to install infrastructure on the street located between Federal Highway 307 and 45 Norte Avenue. The attempted closure was to expand parking for the exclusive use for the store by connecting two adjacent lots. The section of street separating the two lots they are trying to close is city property and drains central traffic onto the federal highway.
Nearby residents opposed their recent request to take over Third Street South by closing it so they could connect the adjacent lots they own to create additional parking. While the company has the right to use their lots for store parking, the street in between is the legal property of the municipality.
