PDC firemen ‘respond, attend to and extinguish’ three house fire in less than 24 hours

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Christmas holidays are taking their toll on municipal firemen. In the past 24 hours, Solidaridad firefighters say they have “responded, attended to and extinguished” three house fires.

All three house fires were reported between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Playa del Carmen. One of the burning houses required forced entry of municipal firemen to be able to access the building to put out the fire.

Civil Protection says the extinguishing of house fires is all part of their Christmas prevention operation. While they did not provide details surrounding the causes of the three house fires, they did report no injuries.

In a brief statement, Civil Protection, Risk Prevention and Firefighters Department of Solidaridad said “as a result of the prevention operation during Christmas Eve and Christmas, our firefighters responded, attended to and extinguished three house fires, with no injuries reported.”

One house fire was in the In House neighborhood. There Solidaridad firemen extinguished the fire of a palapa, allegedly caused by fireworks. In the Villas del Sol subdivision, they extinguished a fire that also started inside a private home.

Firemen also extinguished a fire inside a burning property. “The elements made the forced entry to a burning property in search of people and later extinguished the fire in the Colosio neighborhood.”

A cause for the three holiday timed house fires remains under investigation.
