Riviera Maya, Q.R. — More than 143,000 travelers used the region’s ferry services over the recent one-week holiday period. The Comprehensive Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) reported the significant movement of passengers along the Cozumel-Playa del Carmen and Puerto Juárez-Isla Mujeres routes during that week.
They say the high figures were due to both winter vacations and the mark of the holidays, including the arrival of the New Year.
Apiqroo detailed that from December 28, 2020 to January 3 (2021), 55,539 passengers traveled the Cozumel-Playa del Carmen route, while in Puerto Juárez-Isla Mujeres, 87,682 travelers were counted.
The figures were released after an announcement by Cozumel mayor Pedro Joaquin Delbouis, who said an agreement with both the Ultramar and Winjet ferry companies was made to ensure better health protocols for travelers. Part of that agreement included adhering to a maximum capacity headcount.
