Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A massive gas explosion inside a Playa del Carmen house destroyed the home and left one person critical. Firemen were called to the scene of the attached home in Bosque Real Wednesday.

Neighbors reported the loud explosion coming from one of the units on Montes los Pinos Street around 11:40 a.m. Responding emergency personnel extinguished the fire inside from an LP explosion that blew out the windows and metal security bars.
“In a coordinated response, the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention and Firefighters responded to a fire at a house in the Bosque Real neighborhood.
“One person was injured and taken to the hospital. Two minors suffered minor injuries and are out of danger. The fire was brought under control by firefighters, who prevented it from spreading,” Civil Protection and Firemen reported.

An accumulation of gas inside the kitchen stove is believed to have been the source. According to available information, a man inside the home turned on the stove, not noticing the accusation of gas. The moment he ingited the stove, the gas burst into flames.

The massive explosion left him with second and third degree burns over most of his body. He was transferred to hospital in a silver-containing dressing due to the extent of his injuries. He is reported to be in critical condition.

Last week, a gas explosion inside a rented room of a tenement building on 80th Street in Luis Donaldo Colosio left the room destroyed. The man who lived in the room died several days later in hospital from burns over 70 percent of his body.
