Judge hands down 48 year sentence after woman’s decapitated body found in suitcase on PDC street

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man found guilty of murdering a Playa del Carmen woman has been sentenced to 48 years in prison. Guillermo Jorge “N”, now 44, was sentenced to 48 years for the 2019 murder of 25 year old Erika “N”.

According to authorities, the victim came to Playa del Carmen from the state of Querétaro to work. She was saving money to earn a Canadian visa.

She rented an apartment in the Colosio neighborhood and got a job at a Tulum hotel. The apartment where she lived was the same area where Guillermo Jorge “N” also once lived. He left Quintana Roo in 2018 but returned a year later as a roommate to the woman.

In June 2019, the woman was a week away from traveling to Canada and had agreed to a farewell gathering at a bar in central Playa del Carmen. Police said that on June 14, 2019, she left her job in the Tulum hotel zone and met the suspect at a bar in Playa del Carmen’s Centro neighborhood.

They stayed there until 3:58 a.m. She was last seen alive leaving that bar with him.

On June 16, a search began when she failed to show up for work. On June 18, 2019, part of the victim’s decapitated body was found in bags stuffed inside a suitcase just six blocks from where she lived. She had been stabbed to death after being raped and tortured.

“After identifying the remains, forensic examinations determined that the young woman had been raped and tortured. During an inspection of the apartment she shared with Guillermo Jorge “N” they found traces of the victim’s blood,” police reported.

Guillermo Jorge “N” fled Playa del Carmen on June 21, 2019. He was located in several states including Jalisco and Puebla, calling himself Julio César. He was finally captured in June of 2022 in the state of Oaxaca.

This week, Guillermo Jorge “N”, now 44, was given a 48-year prison sentence for the crime of femicide and fined 236,572 pesos, as well as 513,400 pesos for material damages and 207,753.19 pesos for damages.
