Industrious week: 33 cruise ships have Cozumel on stopover itinerary

Cozumel, Q.R. — Nearly three dozen cruise ships have the island of Cozumel on their stopover itinerary for this week. According to information provided by the Comprehensive Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), 33 ships are set to dock the island between March 11 and 17.

The arrival of ships has remained constant with 32 cruise ships arriving between March 4 to 10. Apiqroo reports Wednesdays and Thursdays as being the most busy docking days for the island.

For this week, Wednesday the 13th is the busiest docking schedule with seven at the SSA México, Puerta Maya and Punta Langosta terminals.

Apiqroo announced that from January 1 to February 29, 2024, 284 cruise ships have already arrived, which represents 10.5 percent increase over the same period of 2023.

Likewise, the number of passengers increased from 782,873 to 958,527, which represents 22.4 percent during the same period. Many of those docking the island also use the ferry service to reach the mainland of Playa del Carmen.

Apiqroo says regarding mobility, from January 1 to February 29, 2024, boarding from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen recorded 308,075 passengers.

From January 1 to February 29, a movement of 53,428 general transit passengers mobilized on 593 ferries was recorded, which represents a 4.2 percent increase in movements compared to 2023.
