Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A pool palapa that caught fire on hotel property forced its guests to evacuate. The late Monday night fire began in a pool palapa of La Pasión Hotel Boutique in central Playa del Carmen.
Guests were alerted to the fire and quickly evacuated from their rooms around midnight. Local reports say it took about 20 minutes for firemen to arrive while they waited in the adjoining city plaza.
When firemen did arrive along 20th Avenue, the fire was fully extinguished. Injuries were not reported, nor has a cause for the blaze been reported.
On Sunday, several palapa rooftops and small structures at the Dolphin Discovery on Isla Mujeres also caught fire after a short circuit in their kitchen.
