Cozumel, Q.R. — Beginning next month, direct flights from Houston and Chicago will return to the island of Cozumel. The flights are set to begin in March and continue into the summer months.
The news of the flights was made by the Director of Municipal Tourism, Pedro Hermosillo López, who reported that in March, Southwest will begin arriving daily from Houston.
A weekly flight is also scheduled with Frontier, who will fly direct to Cozumel from Chicago. It will be the sixth consecutive year that the airline has returned the seasonal route to the island.
Other carriers such as Viva Aerobus is scheduled to begin a new Monterrey to Cozumel route starting this summer. Evelop will also offer summer flights from Madrid.
The airline announcements come around the same time as the installation of an onsite covid testing module at the island’s ferry terminal. Hermosillo López noted that the island remains “incisive with respect to health protocols such as the mandatory use of face masks.”
He added that they also continue to work with international airports, airlines, hotels, the health sector and the American Consulate so tourists from the United States have easy access to the covid testing necessary to return home.
