Five escaped Belize inmates recaptured

Hattieville, Belize — The National Police of Belize say they have recaptured five of the 20 inmates who escaped from the Central Prison of Belize on October 12. In joint operations between the Defense Forces and the Belize Police, the five inmates were found hiding in a property located at Mile 25 of the George Price Highway.

All five were reportadly recaptured and transferred back to prison facilities where, police report, they will face new charges for evasion, injuries, attempted murder and property damage. Belize authorities identify the recaptured as Joel Sierra, the alleged orchestrator of the escape, Víctor Galeano, Darren Vázquez, Deandre Guiffarro and Phillip Bowen.

Belize Police report that there is evidence that the remaining 15 prisoners yet to be recaptured are hiding between miles 17 and 31 of the George Price Highway. Mexico has been on high alert at the request of Belizean authorities since their escape.
