Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) says they have dismantled a criminal network from inside the PDC taxi union. The criminal network, which focused on extortion and drug dealing, operated from within the taxi drivers’ union.

FGE head Raciel López Salazar reported that among those arrested is an individual nicknamed Shoker, allegedly responsible for the murder of three Playa del Carmen taxi drivers, who acted in complicity with another individual identified as El Cochiloco.
According to their investigations, both forced taxi drivers to pay weekly fees of up to 2,500 pesos to allow them work the area. Those who refused were physically attacked as a form of punishment.
Authorities indicated that this criminal structure operated for several years. During their investigation, they learned that the network’s leaders also ran a drug dealing operation, using PDC taxi drivers as distributors.
The arrest of those involved followed the murder of three PDC drivers who had allegedly begun collaborating with a rival drug-selling organization, sparking a violent dispute within the union.
The FGE reported that investigations continue to identify other potential individuals involved within the union.
