Costa Maya, Q. R. — The search for a missing fisherman off the coast of Xcalak continues. Costa Maya officials have expanded their land, sea and air searches since the fisherman was reported missing December 26.
Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil (State Civil Protection) reported Wednesday that the search has been expanded and continues.
“The search for missing people in the community of Xcalak remains operational. It is reported that an intense search continues by the various authorities in coordination with the Port Captaincy, Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of Citizen Security and the Search and Rescue Commission and the State Coordination of Civil Protection.
“The search operation has been carried out by air through small planes of the Secretary of the Navy, Helicopter with the Secretary of Citizen Security, Civil Protection and the Search and Rescue by sea with the Port Captaincy and family members who have been participating in the search.
“This operation was activated after the disappearance was reported December 26, in the community of Xcalak.”
The search began after a boat capsized in rough seas off the coast of Xcalak on December 26. Five people were on board the vessel at the time. Three were pulled from the sea alive. One man was found deceased. The body of the last man has yet to be found.
All five are reported to be area fishermen. The Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) of Quintana Roo spent the weekend air searching for the local man’s body in the Zaragoza canal.
