Holbox, Q.R. — The island of Holbox has been included in the top 10 of the Best Islands in North America category. In the Readers Choice Awards 2024, the paradisial island was named fourth as the Best Island in North America by the magazine’s global travelers.
Holbox, which lies above Cancun, was given a 92.2 percent score by global travelers who recently visited the 42-kilometer-long island. The Reader’s Choice results were released last month.
Holbox has been nominated for that same category in the past. The Island of Holbox was recognized as the Best Island in North America by Condé Nast Traveller for their 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards.
Bernardo Cueto Riestra, the Secretary of Tourism for Quintana Roo says this recognition positions Holbox and the Mexican Caribbean as world-class destinations, highlighting the natural and cultural wealth of Quintana Roo.
“We are proud to see how Holbox has become an icon of tourism in North America. With the Ministry of Tourism, we will continue working to strengthen the infrastructure, preserve the natural environment and promote the cultural authenticity that distinguishes Quintana Roo.
“This achievement is just the beginning of a comprehensive strategy that seeks to bring opportunities and well-being to every family that is part of this community,” he said.
Between January and August of this year, the island of Holbox received more than 363,000 tourists. “With this award, Holbox consolidates itself as a unique destination that enchants visitors from all over the world with its natural charm and sustainable approach,” he said.
