Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Authorities have increased security at a highway police filter north of the city of Playa del Carmen. The SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) of Playa del Carmen tightened security after a clash between a criminal group and officers.

According to the SSC, at least one officer was injured in the Thursday afternoon incident. Patrols, including the use of the city’s helicopter, have been intensified at PDC police filter 1 that separates the municipalities of Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos.

In their statement, police did not specify what the incident was that left one municipal officer injured, only that patrols were intensified to prevent risk to the general population.
In a statement Thursday, the SSC of Playa del Carmen reported “following an incident in the border area of Puerto Morelos, in which a police officer from that municipality was unfortunately injured, the Playa del Carmen Citizen Security Secretariat has reinforced operations at Filter 1, located on the exit to Cancún.

“As part of the inter-institutional work with neighboring municipalities, patrols in the area have been intensified, including strategic overflights with the Albatros helicopter, with the aim of preventing any risk and protecting the safety of all those who travel on this road. We continue working for your safety.”
