Holbox, Q.R. — An ongoing disagreement between Ejidos and the CFE has generated another roadblock. On Tuesday, dozens of Ejidos from Kantunkkin used vehicles and large rocks to block the Port of Chiquilá road that leads to Holbox.
Those involved in the second roadblock in a week alleged that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) failed to pay them for use of their land as part of a recently established agreement.
The state’s northern Ejidos have been asking for compensation from CFE for the use of their lands for the passage of the power lines that feed the island of Holbox. In retaliation for that alleged breach, Ejidatarios from Kantunilkín have again blocked the the only road that leads to the port of Chiquilá.
On October 16, a group of Ejidos blocked a section of that same road. They were attended to in person by the Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres, who addressed concerns of the Kantunilkin Ejidos in relation to unpaid CFE rights.
