Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A 7 year old boy was treated Monday morning for bites after being mauled by a dog. The attack happened around 1:30 a.m. on a central Playa del Carmen beach.
The young boy was with his parents on a beach area of Constituyentes Avenue when a loose dog, who was in the company of his owner, came after the boy. The boy’s father was able to grab his son and stop the attack.
Before the boy’s father reached him however, he suffered several bits to his chest, back and arm. Solidaridad Tourist Police responded after a group of people who saw the attack went in search of police.
Police called an ambulance after seeing the boy’s injuries. He was taken to hospital in the company of his mother by a Civil Protection medical unit.

The responsible dog is reported to be a rottweiler. Its owner agreed to pay for the medical expenses. Authorities have not said if the owner will be fined or if any charges will be laid for the mauling.
On January 15, two girls were attacked by a pit bull while playing on a street. The oldest girl, 5, required facial surgery due to the attack.
