Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Dozens of blocks of hashish were collected from central shores of Playa del Carmen after being found washed up. The Solidaridad Tourist Police secured the bricks Wednesday night.
Elements of the Tourist Police were notified of the finding shortly before midnight. Over two dozen solid blocks of the drugs were found inside a nylon bag. The rest were located washed up separately. In total, police secured 47 blocks of hashish from a beach area at PlayaCar.
The located wrapped packages measured 22 centimeters long by 14 wide and 4 high, each of which was wrapped secured with tape. All 47 packages were transferred to the FGE in Cancun for investigating.
In the last week, at least three speed boats carrying tons of cocaine have been captured and seized in Caribbean Sea waters. One of those boats was captured by Honduran authorities May 9 transporting 3 tons of cocaine.
A second speed boat carrying 700 kilos of cocaine was captured by U.S. and Puerto Rican police later that same week. Around that same time, Mexican authorities captured a speed boat transporting 3 tons of cocaine off the coast of Mahahual.
