Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The addition of two more all-inclusive beaches for the city of Playa del Carmen is in the works. Lourdes Várguez Ocampo, the General Director of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) for Solidaridad, said that by March of 2023, at least three of the city’s beaches will be fully equipped to accommodate those with special needs.
The three all-inclusive beaches will be Punta Esmeralda, Playa Pelicanos and Playa Xcalacoco.
Ocampo explained that Punta Esmeralda, which already has some all-inclusive features, will have their infrastructure added to so that it is a complete all-inclusive beach. She says Punta Esmeralda should be finished before Christmas.
After Punta Esmeralda, the city will begin working on Playa Pelicanos.
“Shortly we will lay the first stone for Playa Pelicanos, another all-inclusive beach for people with all types of disabilities and older adults. We consider that by December 16, we will have the first stone laid and then construction goes very quickly,” she said.
The makeover of Playa Pelicanos is expected to be complete in March of 2023 and will help serve the central Constituyentes area so people with disabilities will not have to travel to Punta Esmeralda, she said.
The third inclusive beach will be in Xcalacoco. Infrastructure work has already begun on Playa Xcalacoco. Ocampo said that this beach will be finished next year, but did not have an anticipated delivery date.
