Rio Lagartos, Yucatan — The driver of a Yucatan tourist bus found himself hung-up after driving into a sinkhole. Recent heavy rains are believed to have weakened the busy road that runs parallel to the river.
Passing motorists who happened upon the sunken section of road stopped to help the driver of the bus. The accident happened Sunday morning on a section where a pipeline serves to transfer water from the estuary to the mangrove to avoid flooding.
The road is believed to have collapsed overnight. There were no injuries reported, only material damage to the front of the bus. The road remains closed while authorities make the necessary repairs.
