Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A 50 year old man was taken into custody Monday after being reported for a kidnapping. Playa del Carmen witnesses dialed 9-1-1 after watching the woman being forced into a car against her will.

Police were notified of the kidnapping and able to locate the vehicle. Inside the car they located the victim. The 50 year old driver, identified by police as Jerry Ismael “N” from Yucatan, was arrested on Avenida Universidades.
“The Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat (SSCM) of Playa del Carmen arrested a man for the probable crime of unlawful deprivation of liberty on Avenida Universidades and the Cristo Rey Bypass.
“During a preventative patrol, municipal police received a report of a white Nissan Tsuru vehicle that had been used moments earlier to abduct a young woman against her will.
“Upon locating the vehicle, officers intercepted it and were able to rescue the victim, who immediately requested help after getting out of the vehicle. Jerry Ismael “N” 50, originally from Yucatan, was arrested on-site and later handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office along with the vehicle involved, for further investigation.

“The young victim received specialized assistance and support from the Specialized Group for Attention to Domestic and Gender Violence (GEAVIG),” police reported.
On Monday, Mayor Estefanía Mercado said it is the training, equipment and strategic patrols that allowed officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSCM) to rescue the young woman so quickly.

She said with strong institutions, trained police forces and a clear vision of social justice, the strategy in Playa del Carmen is bearing results.
Police did not say if the victim knew her kidnapper or if it was a targeted or random abduction.
