Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A young man arrested for physical and sexual abuse has had his first day in court. The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) says José B will remain in preventative detention after his hearing Monday after a Playa del Carmen court charged him with rape.
In their report, the FGE says “first investigations establish that seven months ago, in the State of Campeche, the defendant paid the victim’s older sister to be able to take her with him to the municipality of Solidaridad, Quintana Roo, where he deprived her of her liberty, beat her, sexually abused her and threatened her.”
They say that on August 27, José B was drinking alcoholic beverages outside his home when he saw a neighbor talking to the victim. José B returned her to the home where he proceeded to physically abuse her, causing her injuries with a sharp weapon.
The young woman, a minor, managed to escape and flag down a passing police unit. From there, police returned to the home and arrested José B. The minor female remains in protective custody of the state.
