Young swimmer pronounced dead on central Playa del Carmen beach

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A young man reported to be an American exchange student was seen floating off a Playa del Carmen beach. Beachgoers notified authorities of the body that was seen in the water off 6th Street in central Playa del Carmen Monday.

Emergency services was notified of the sighting around 6:30 p.m. and sent an ambulance in response. By the time emergency services arrived, the man had been returned to the sand. Paramedics pronounced the young man dead. He has been identified as 25 year old Carlos “A”, an American resident studing at a Mexican university.

According to reports, the body was found with his personal identification including student I.D. from the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico. The young man is reported to have been a visitor who was swept out by currents while swimming.
