Progreso, Yucatan — A worker was killed yesterday after the collapse of a 20 meter crane. The machine was being operated when it suddenly leaned sideways and landed on a makeshift shed.

Inside the shed was a group of construction workers. One of the workers was killed and another seriously injured. The accident happened on a Mitza company site located on the highway to Progreso.
According to preliminary reports, a boom crane was carrying out maneuvers when, due to its weight, it tilted and fell. The boom, which was extended approximately 20 meters, collapsed on a sheet metal workshop.
Several workers were under the metal structure at the time of the accident. One of them died on scene while another suffered various injuries. Others managed to get out on their own unhurt.

Civil Protection personnel from Progreso arrived to assess the on-site company accident. Details surrounding how the crane fell over were not provided.
