Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — A maintenance worker died Tuesday after falling from scaffolding. Playa del Carmen paramedics found the man laying on the concrete below. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man who was also on the scaffolding at the time of the accident, suffered injuries and was transferred to hospital. The men were working on the façade of a centrally located store when they fell.
The scaffolding was set up approximately six meters above the ground. The accident happened around 1:00 p.m. Police were at the scene of the 3rd Street South accident site in response to a 911 report by other workers.
There have been reports that the men were not wearing harnesses when they fell. The second worker who fell is reported in serious condition.
