Worker killed after clandestine Pemex pipeline explodes

Epazoyucan, Hidalgo — One Pemex worker was killed Wednesday after a tapped pipeline exploded. The explosion happened in Epazoyucan, Hidalgo when Pemex workers were attempting to reclaim the clandestine pipeline.

Pemex workers were making repairs on the line when the backhoe operator accidentally punctured it causing a leak. The victim is a Petróleos Mexicanos worker who was operating the backhoe.

It was around 7:30 p.m. when emergency rescue officials and police began to arrive at the scene of the fire. The pipeline was laid out along a dirt road in the municipality of Xolostitla. The explosion was attended to by personnel from Civil Protection and National Defense who were part of the rescue team.

Authorities were on scene until around 9:00 p.m. when the situation was declared under control.
