Woman on scooter loses leg after being hit by PDC patrol unit

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen woman who was hit by a municipal patrol unit has lost a leg. On Wednesday, the police unit was responding to the afternoon report of shots fired in the Nuevo Noh-Bec neighborhood of the city.

While responding to the report, the unit hit the scooter head on. The female driver of the scooter was pinned under the front bumper of the patrol pickup. The collision amputated her right leg at the knee.

Paramedics were called to rush the woman to hospital along with her severed leg. Other patrol units were called to the scene to assist. In a brief acknowledgement, the Ministry of Public Security said they are monitoring the health status of the woman and will comply “in the face of the damage and injuries caused.”
