Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A woman was killed Tuesday during a two vehicle accident on the El Tintal highway. The accident happened in west Playa del Carmen when a private car and public mototaxi collided.

Motorists reported the accident to emergency services around 8:30 a.m. along Búhos Avenue where the car and taxi colidded. The mototaxi was t-boned by the car in the intersection.
The mototaxi unit instantly caught fire and completely burned from the accident, however, the driver escaped with only minor injuries. The impact from the car hitting the taxi ejected the driver from the unit before it went up in flames.

The occupants of the car, however, were reported injured with a female passenger being killed. After colliding with the mototaxi, the car spun out of control and hit a streetlight in the central median.

While spinning out of control, the female passenger’s head swung out her open window and into the pole, leaving her headless. The male driver was ejected from the car and found laying on the pavement.

Playa del Carmen firemen were called to extinguish the burning mototaxi, which was left overturned in dry highway vegetation. The driver of the car was rushed to hospital in serious condition.
