Winds cause live wires in central PDC to crash down onto wet pavement

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal Police shut access to an area along 30th Avenue after live cables fell onto wet pavement. The incident was recorded by residents late Friday night that shows the generation of massive sparks as the two met.

The live set of cables fell onto the street from an old pole. Ongoing heavy rain and strong wind is being blamed for the incident that eventually caused a short circuit.

City police were at the scene at the corner of 30th Avenue and 30th Street North around midnight where they located the live wires. CFE personnel were called in to cut power and remove the downed lines from the public street.

While they waited, Public Security agents restricted the passage of vehicles in both directions on at least two streets.
