Weekend fire completely consumes PDC apartment

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An apartment in Playa del Carmen was completely gutted in a weekend fire. Members of the Solidaridad fire department were called to the scene Friday afternoon after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the upper floor unit.

Once there, firemen found the apartment vacant of occupants and completely engulfed in flames. The fire happened on the third floor of a three-floor residential complex in Misión de las Flores.

In a brief statement by the fire department, they explained that Civil Protection were also at the scene to assist in the removal of gas tanks as well as the evacuation of the building while firemen dealt with the upper apartment blaze.

No injuries were reported in the fire, however, the entire unit was destroyed. Everything inside was eaten by fire, leaving behind extensive material damage. Authorities continue to investigate a cause.

The Secretaría de Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos de Solidaridad said “we responded to a report of a fire in a house in Col. Misión de las Flores. To avoid another emergency, the people who were in the surrounding apartments were evacuated and the stationary tanks were closed. There was material damage.”
