Veracruz man taken into custody after shooting at Playa del Carmen police during chase

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — One male was taken into custody after a chase through a residential neighborhood resulted in an exchange of gunfire. According to a statement from Seguridad Pública Solidaridad (SSP), 26-year-old José “N” from Veracruz was taken to hospital under guard after he was shot in the leg.

The shooting happened during a chase in the In- House neighborhood of Playa del Carmen on the afternoon of April 2.

“Officers of the Preventive Police responded to a call for help due to detonations of a firearm against a house on Bahía de Tiburón Street, and upon approaching the place, they observed a subject with the characteristics provided in the report aboard a motorcycle, who accelerated to flee.”

In his attempt to get away, he shot at police from his motorcycle but missed. Police shot back, wounding him in the leg which caused him to fall from his bike and lose his weapon.

Police requested an ambulance who transferred him to hospital under guard. He was later officially arrested on firearm and attempted homicide charges.
