Bacalar, Q.R. — Emergency services were at the scene of a single vehicle crash outside the community of Buenavista Monday evening. A van carrying passengers rolled off a section of the municipal highway and into trees.
Police and paramedics arrived at the scene of a ditched passenger van off a municipal Bacalar highway Monday. The van was found with its roof caved in and front windshield gone.
Early information says nearly a dozen people from inside the transport van were treated for injuries after the driver lost control and the van rolled, ending up backward in trees.
Members of the Rhino Rescue Group from a neighboring community joined rescue and medical care efforts, providing pre-hospital assistance to those with less severe injuries.
Those found with more severe injuries were transferred directly to hospital.
The accident happened around 6:00 p.m. outside the community. Initial reports say the driver of the van was attempting to avoid a second vehicle when he was forced off the highway.
