Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An American woman reported missing nearly two weeks has been heard from. The woman was last seen in Playa del Carmen on August 9. It wasn’t until 10 days later that her family filed a missing persons report with local authorities.
With the official filing, the State Attorney General (FGE) of Quintana Roo activated a missing persons (Alba) alert for the women. With the release of her alert, the FGE reported “The active search for Nekendra Karen Kingston last seen on August 9, 2023 in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. If you have information on her whereabouts call 984 873 0163.”
The 49-year-old woman was last heard from by her family August 9. A missing persons report was officially filed August 19, however on August 20, her brother Ron Kuchler posted on X that he was with her and she is “getting healthy”.
The woman was checked into a large all-inclusive adults only Riviera Maya hotel at the time she was reported missing.
On social media, brother Ron Kuchler wrote “My sister Karen Kingston has spoken with the family today. She is safe and getting healthy. Thank you for all the prayers! They have been answered. There will be more to say in the upcoming days.”
Ms. Kingston was on vacation at the time she cut off communication with her family. She arrived July 30. According to an August 11 statement from her family, she was suffering side effects of malaria and “needed to be seen immediately by a physician”.
