Costa Maya, Q.R. — Two fishing vessels and their crew were rescued from the sea over the weekend by the Navy of Mexico.
The Navy of Mexico reports that personnel from the Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance team provided support to the crew of the sports vessel Hunab Ku after the Captaincy of Puerto de Chetumal received a distress call that the boat and crew were adrift.
Navy personnel found the boat 1.5 nautical miles (2.77 kilometers) north of Calderitas. On board were three crew members who were towed to the dock of the Integral Port Administration.
A few hours later, navy personnel were sent out again to rescue Captain Candelas and its crew. The second report of the day from the Captaincy of the Port of Chetumal requested assistance after the boat’s engine failed.
The boat and crew were found 3 nautical miles (5.55 kilometers) to the east of Tamalcab Island with four crew members. They too, were towed to the dock of the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo.
