Holbox, Q.R. — Dogs on beaches are being blamed for the death of two pink flamingos found dead on Holbox island. Personnel from the Natural Areas Commission currently have the two dead flamingos in their possession for an official autopsy.
The birds were found Sunday by area residents in mangrove in the Punta Cocos area of the island. The birds were found with visible injuries to their necks.
Personnel from the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp) have secured them for an official cause of death. Local environmentalists have filed a complaint with the federal authorities regarding loose dogs wandering on beaches, which the complaint claims, are responsible for the death of the flamingos.
The Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (Conanp) has not released any official information regarding the deaths of the two birds found.
