Two PDC taxi drivers arrested on drug and assault charges against tourists

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two Playa del Carmen taxi drivers have been arrested in the physical assault of two tourists. Their arrests were announced Thursday by the State Attorney General (FGE) who reported they were picked up for drug dealing.

However, in their report, they also confirmed the two now-detained taxi drivers are also related to the physical assault of a tourist couple last weekend.

Abraham “N” and Juan Manuel “N” have been arrested “for their alleged participation in events that could constitute drug-related crimes in the form of drug dealing. These subjects are also related to the attack on a couple of tourists that occurred outside an entertainment center in this municipality,” the FGE reported.

Both Abraham “N” and Juan Manuel “N” “were captured in response to a report of drug sales, an activity for which they used the units in which they provided service as taxi drivers.

“For this reason, the State Attorney General’s Office requested the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Inmoveqroo) to suspend the driver’s licenses of the detainees and cancel the concessions for taxi service of the vehicles involved,” they explained.

“According to the first investigations, Abraham “N” and Juan Manuel “N” are allegedly related to the recent attack on a man and a woman of foreign nationality, which occurred outside an establishment located in the central area of this municipality,” the FGE confirmed.
